Tribeca è uno dei quartieri di Manhattan famosi più per i suoi abitanti che per le attrazioni da vedere. Si tratta infatti di un quartiere prevalentemente residenziale, visitato però dai turisti sia per la particolarità delle sue strade che per i famosi ristoranti.
Tribeca infatti confina con SoHo, uno dei quartieri più cool di Manhattan dove trovare locali alla moda, ideale per trascorrere le vostre serate newyorkesi. Tribeca non presenta attrazioni particolarmente famose, ma è innegabile che il quartiere stesso merita di essere visitato, andiamo a scoprire perché. Leggi anche “I 5 distretti di New York”.

TriBeCa significa “Triangle Below Canal Street”, si trova nell’area di Lower Manhattan, non lontano dal One World Trade Center e condanna con SoHo, il distretto finanziario e Chinatown. Il confine ovest del quartiere è segnato dal fiume Hudson, lungo il quale è possibile passeggiare lungo un romantico viale.
La storia di TriBeCa è alquanto singolare. Fino agli anni ’70 infatti si era una zona industriale, caratterizzata dalle strade di ciottoli, dai palazzi in ghisa, e dai magazzini utilizzati da molte industrie e aziende. Quando vivere a SoHo cominciò a diventare troppo costoso, molti artisti decisero di trasferirsi nel vicino TriBeCa, dando il via al processo che in pochi anni trasformerà il quartiere.
I magazzini vennero trasformati in grandi loft di lusso, il quartiere iniziò ad interessare a persone più facoltose, e iniziarono anche ad aprire rinomati ristoranti, bistrot, gallerie d’arte, locali alla moda e molto altro.
Oggi TriBeCa è un quartiere sicuro, che possiamo definire “di lusso” e dove si mangia veramente bene, anche se non è a buon mercato.
Il quartiere di TriBeCa negli anni è diventato sempre più di moda trai vip, complice anche il “TriBeCa Film Festival” (di cui parleremo più avanti), tanto che oggi, passeggiando tra le sue caratteristiche strade è possibile incontrare Julia Roberts, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, David Letterman, Meryl Streep, Roberto de Niro e molti altri.
Sicuramente la presenza di tanti personaggi famosi contribuisce alla sicurezza del quartiere, considerato uno dei migliori dove soggiornare a New York, anche se ovviamente i prezzi non sono alla portata di tutti. Anche la sera le strade del quartiere sono abbastanza sicure, ma per tornare in hotel, dopo aver assaggiato le prelibatezze di qualche buon ristorante, vi consigliamo comunque di prendere un taxi.
L’evento più importante che si celebra all’interno del quartiere è senza ombra di dubbio di il “TriBeCa Film Festival”.
Si tratta di uno dei festival del cinema più importanti del mondo, nonostante sia stato ideato in epoca recente. Era il 2002 infatti quando alcuni importanti attori, come Robert de Niro e Jane Rosenthal, in collaborazione con altri colleghi, decisero di creare un evento artistico per aiutare il quartiere e la città a superare il trauma del crollo delle Torri Gemelle. TriBeCa infatti si trova vicino a Ground Zero e gli attentati che l’undici settembre hanno segnato profondamente gli abitanti del quartiere.
Il TriBeCa Film Festival fu una delle tante iniziative che aiutò la città di New York a riprendersi dall’infausto giorno, che nessuno comunque potrà mai dimenticare.
In genere il festival viene organizzato nel mese di aprile, e ogni anno riesce sempre a presentare film molto interessanti, rendendo l’evento imperdibile per gli amanti del cinema.
Come abbiamo già detto, a TriBeCa non troverete grandi attrazioni, ma bisogna anche dire che la zona è molto ben collegata.
Uno dei luoghi più famosi del quartiere è “Nobu”, il ristorante giapponese presente in qualsiasi guida di viaggio. Oltre a vantare un menu di altissimo livello, è frequentato anche da molti VIP, non solo quelli del quartiere e tra i suoi soci può vantare anche il nome di Robert de Niro. Tra i luoghi più interessanti da visitare vi segnaliamo il Washington Market Park, la Clocktower Gallery, l’Hudson River Park e il TriBeCa film center. Bisogna però dire che l’attrazione più fotografata non è Nobu o il TriBeCa film center, bensì la mitica Caserma di Ghostbuster.
La Caserma dei Ghostbuster, nota anche come Hook & Ladder, si trova al 14 Nord di Moore Street. Se vi ha appassionato il celebre film degli anni ’80, non potrete perdere l’occasione di scattarvi un selfie da dove partiva a tutta velocità la Ecto-1.
Un quartiere tanto famoso per la qualità dei suoi ristoranti, non poteva non avere anche un festival dedicato al cibo. Il “Taste of TriBeCa” è un evento che cade ogni anno il 16 maggio e vede confrontarsi alcuni tra i più importanti ristoranti del quartiere.
A TriBeCa anche Halloween è una festa particolare. In questo quartiere infatti i bambini non sono costretti a salire le scale dei vari grattacieli, ma possono girare per le strade, ovviamente accompagnati dai loro genitori. Alla vigilia di Ognissanti, tra le strade di TriBeCa non sembra di essere a New York, ma in qualche piccola città americana, un’atmosfera unica che vale la pena di vivere.
